I woke up one day to find I ‘m not where I had been,
I can’t say where or how…what it might mean,
I’m on the mountain, I’m on the beach
But freedom’s hand is always just beyond my
reach,
No.2 keeps calling me
He says its time for tea
They scrutinize my memory,
All I want is to be free
Six of one, half a dozen more;
Rover’s waiting just outside the door,
In the village
Six of one, half a dozen more
In the village
No.2 keeps calling me
He says its time for tea
They scrutinize my memory,
All I want is to be free
Knowledge is no friend until it’s gone
I want to know whose side your on
In the Village
In the Village
Big Ben’s bells are ringing on a tape,
I’ll help number six to escape
You will not posses my compound information
Distant trumpets herald in my proclamation
Inauguration, .. Information
My situation in isolation is dire
Under the green dome you will be
sedated
Ask the General “why”? and he’s
obliterated
Sending out an orange alert cause number 6 will
not convert
He is not a number…He’s a free man
IN THE VILLAGE "I am not a number, I'm a free man"
In the 1960s I remember watching Patrick MaGoohan 's series
from BBC
called "The Prisoner". It ran as a summer replacement program here in
the states.
It was a highly stylized brilliant work that has lived on
through regular PBS showings.
Patrick McGoohan played the prisoner, & wrote the
screenplays for many of the episodes.
Provacative & intelligent, there has been nothing quite like it
since.
The meaning of the show is still hotly debated.
I always felt it championed the individual & warned of the
pitfalls of conformity.
If you have never seen it, do yourself a favor &
check it out the next time PBS runs it.
(Or better yet buy it right here)
The
Prisoner On DVDs
With its unique mix of action, drama, science
fiction and the surreal,
It's message is even more relevant today than when it originally aired,
The Prisoner is a television classic of the rarest kind.
And of course the inspiration for the song,
"In The Village".
