STOP
TALKING TO ME
SHE WAS BARELY AWAKE ON THE NEW INTERSTATE WITH THE WHITE LINES FLYING
BY HER,
THE RADIO’S ON BUT THE SIGNAL IS GONE & THE STATIC CAUGHT ON
FIRE,
AN HOUR TIL DAWN SHE PUTS HER MAKEUP ON IT WAS HYPO- ALLERGENIC
YOUR NEVER ALONE WITH A RADIO PHONE OR IF YOUR SCHIZOPHRENIC
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW
AT I-65 SHE WAS BARELY ALIVE WITH HER EYES ON CALIFORNIA,
THE LIGHTS ARE ALL RED AND THE BATTERY’S DEAD
I SAID DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YA'
OUTSIDE OF TOWN WITH THE SUN BEATING DOWN THE CONVERSATION DIED,
YOUR NEVER ALONE WITH A RADIO PHONE OR IF YOU BOTH COLLIDE,
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW
STOP, STOP TALKING TO M E, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW
THE WEATHER WAS STILL UP ON FAIRLAWN HILL WHEN THEY LAID THEM SIDE BY
SIDE,
THE PREACHER SAID THEY WERE BETTER OFF DEAD BUT I KINDA THINK HE LIED,
THEY TALKED ON THE WIRE TILL THE CREDIT EXPIRED TILL THE ENGINES BLEW
THEIR GASKETS,
YOUR NEVER ALONE OUT IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THEY’VE GOT CAR PHONES IN
THEIR CASKETS
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME
STOP, STOP TALKING TO ME, STOP TURNING MY HEART
AROUND NOW

STOP TALKING TO ME
This song is straight ahead storytelling set to a reggae rhythm.
There is no underlying meaning, except perhaps to
keep focused on driving when behind the wheel.
Fans of the Mighty Parrot Band who have been with us
for a while may remember this song .
It was a regular feature in our sets at "The Barn" in Smithville N.J.
In the mid 90s we played there through the winters regularly.
We have fond memories of those gigs & recall Bernie &
Marge were great hosts.
We began playing the song again last summer in our live shows.
The version on the CD is very similar to the live version with the
addition
of a few sound effects for good measure.
The song was written well before cell phones were commonplace.
I remember thinking I would not like to be bothered by phone calls
while driving.
I could picture telemarketers bugging me in my car, well of course
today we all have them.
Stop
annoying phone calls!
